One of the best pickup trucks you can find right now is the iconic Chevy Silverado 1500, recently updated for the 2023 model year with powerhouse performance specs, tough capabilities, and the latest technology inside the cabin. It’s a great choice for any driver, but how does the Silverado stack up to key competitors like the new RAM 1500? If you’re stuck deciding between the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 or RAM 1500, Allen Samuels Chevrolet GMC has everything you need to know comparing these two trucks in the guide below.

2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. RAM 1500: Performance

Performance power is usually one of the most important factors that drivers consider when shopping for a new pickup truck. Both the Silverado and RAM 1500 offer strong performance specs on and off the College Station roads, but you’ll see that the Silverado pulls ahead in a few key categories. Check out the difference between the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 and RAM 1500 under the hood below:

  • Engine Power: The Silverado generates more horsepower on its base-level trim, delivering 310 hp compared to 305 hp on the RAM 1500. The horsepower on the Silverado’s other standard engines range from 277 hp to 420 hp, while the RAM 1500’s standard engines top out at 395 hp. While the RAM does offer a specialty HEMI V8 engine that generates 702 horsepower, you can only find it on the all-new RAM 1500 TRX.
  • Torque: As with horsepower, the Silverado 1500 generates more torque right from its entry-level trim than the RAM 1500, delivering 430 lb-ft compared to the RAm’s 269 lb-ft.
  • Transmission: The Silverado 1500 gives you the advantage of choice when it comes to transmission, offering either a 6-speed automatic or an 8-speed automatic. The RAM 1500, by contrast, solely offers an 8-speed automatic transmission.
  • Trailering Capacity: The RAM 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds, while the Silverado edges it out slightly with a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds.

2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. RAM 1500: Pricing

Given that many of its performance specs are more powerful than the RAM 1500, you might expect that the Chevy Silverado is also pricier than its RAM counterpart. However, the Chevy actually starts at a lower price tag–and offers nine available trim levels to the RAM’s eight! Here are the starting prices for both trucks:

  • 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 Work Truck: Starting MSRP of $36,300
  • 2023 RAM 1500 Tradesman: Starting MSRP of $37,410
